Rose of Hope Luncheon

Actress Cynthia Nixon urges prevention, action at Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center luncheon. More than $200,000 raised to support programs for the underserved.

More than 350 people at the June 11 Rose of Hope Luncheon in Fairfield heard Emmy, Tony and Grammy-winning “Sex and the City” actress and breast cancer survivor Cynthia Nixon proclaim, “We need more Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Centers!”

“I am one of you and I am privileged to be one of you,” Nixon told fellow breast cancer survivors. “Get mammograms and make sure all the women in your life get them. Live life. Do the things you really want to do. Feel your pain and rather than deaden it, calm and soothe it the way you would a baby.”

Nixon, best known for her role as Miranda Hobbes, the high-powered lawyer on HBO’s “Sex and the City,” announced during an April 2008 television interview that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer during a routine mammogram in October 2006. She has since become a breast cancer activist and ambassador for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
