Installations Decorate the Streets of Stratfield
The Stratfield Village installations are a result of the grand opening of the Young Artists' Studio's community project. The owners, Priscilla Igram and Christine Orlando, cut silhouettes from ply wood of everyday people. They primed them and wrote a small instruction by each cut out. As the community filed in to their party, they walked around and painted whatever struck their fancy within the guidelines provided. Homage was paid to the styles of Matisse, Haring and Warhol. For example, the dog walker had a theme of "what you love about living in Fairfield" and the dog was painted in a Matisse theme. The lady with a stroller was all about Keith Haring and his simply shaped people in black on white...with a pop of red. The little girl blowing a dandelion is styled after a print of Warhols with a grass background with boldly colored flowers printed on top. The studio was a buzz with worker bees galore— everyone wanted a hand in what would soon grace the neighborhood streets and bring new life to an area that the closed IGA was beginning to bring down. The installation will have its time in the sun and then the owners will be on to the next project for the community to be looking forward to.
