113 Cross Highway, Westport
Cross Highway Garage (the town’s first gas station) and the William Meeker House

Built: c. 1910 and c. 1835
Restored: 2008
This restoration incited a change to Historic District Commission regulations, allowing owners of residential historic buildings and outbuildings to repurpose them for human habitation. The property, restored by architect Michael Glynn, has won a Historic District Commission Award and, most recently, a Connecticut Preservation Award.

Jonathan Ward House

Built: 1872
Restored: 2009
Once owned by the Sherwood family, who donated Sherwood Island to the state, the Jonathan Ward House is a restoration that incorporated geothermal heating plus a 5,000-sq.-ft. addition. The project is nearing completion.

“Chaise House”, Westport
Built: 1805
Restored: 2007
This Hillandale beauty, a former barn used to store a “chaise,” or single horse-drawn cart, was built for Simon Couch, a large property owner. The barn was converted into a house in 1975 and recently modified to add dormers and a front door. It won a 2007 Preservation Award from the town for "Adaptive Reuse” and for meticulous documentation of the home’s history.

Von Schmidt House

Built: 1927
Restored: 2008
Once owned by Harold von Schmidt, illustrator for the Saturday Evening
Post.  The artist studio was used by Harold and his son Eric, a painter, illustrator and musician.

157 Hillspoint, Westport
Built: 1914
Restored: 2001
This Cape Cod style house was restored to all of its original cottage charm, including the uneven windows on the façade.

Emily McLaury House

Built: c. 1921
Restored: 2007
The Emily McLaury House “is believed that Charles E. Cutler, one of Westport’s most prominent architects, designed this modest home in the early 1920s for his wife’s cousin, Emily McLaury,” reports the website: http://www.westportct.gov

131 Sturges Highway, Westport
Abel Bradley House

Built: 1800
Restored: 2007
The little cottage became battle between preservationists and developers until a collaborative effort by all parties approved design plans by Southport architect J. P. Franzen that preserved the cottage while adding a new house with twenty-first-century features.
