A Quote to Live By

This week a colleague of MTFM sent us this quote:

“Taking time for yourself should never be seen as a burden. Not on you, and not on anyone else.” - Elizabeth Franklin.

The following comment accompanied the quote: “And I just sat out by my fountain on the patio with a cup of coffee and did nothing—guilt free!! Thanks for being a good influence!”

At Home "Me Time"

Who would have thought it would still be raining! Hopefully the sun will be making a grand appearance sooner rather than later and we can start working on our tans and enjoying those wild summer nights. But until then, don’t let this gloomy, rainy weather get to you!

Don’t want to leave the house in this weather? Neither do we. Find yourself slouching around being grumpy? We certainly are feeling that way. Keep the sunshine glowing within and schedule some at home me time with yourself to help chase the clouds away until the sun comes back. How to do that? Here are a few of our favorite suggestions.

Fun Events for the Fall

Its raining, its pouring, the MTFM ladies are anything but boring! With all of this misty weather, it's easy to get down, but we don’t let that affect us! Even though we are on hiatus with events for the summer, we have been out and about scouting the area for new and exciting locales for fun events for the fall.

Last night, we checked out Crumbs Bake Shop in Westport (crumbs.com) and shared a moist, delicious, chocolate chip cookie dough cupcake. Wow! That was worth the calories for sure. Since we already ate dessert, we decided to move onto appetizers and drinks at Mansion Clam House in Westport (mansionclamhouse.com). Sitting in the outdoor patio with the heaters on, the steamers tasted just as good as if we had been seaside.

Look for possible upcoming events at these businesses as well as others in the area. Until then, stay dry and remember to take some “me time.”

Fall Season Events

The calendar says that Spring is in the air, but with all this stormy weather I guess we have to believe what the calendar says! My Time For Me will be taking a break from events this summer to take some me time for ourselves. But fear not, in between our me time, we will be planning stellar events for you for the fall season. Events such as an Art Gallery Tour in NYC, Wine and Pizza Dinner, a visit back to the shooting range and much much more.

Grand Central Terminal Tour

This weekend My Time For Me took a tour of Grand Central Terminal. I have always loved GCT and whenever I take the train into the city, I take a moment to look up and gaze at the beautiful ceiling up above. It takes my breath away and if not for possibly getting run over by the folks walking through I would stand there for hours and just stare up.

Aside from that and a few other minor tid-bits that I have learned over the years about GCT, I did not really know too much of the history or of the less visited parts of the terminal. The tour on Saturday, while only a little over an hour long, taught me so much that I did not know or even think about. It was great and I look forward to learning more. Of course hearing our tour guide talk about the history made me want to get a book about GCT, but I refrained, I think I will just put that book on my wish list for now.

Book Blog: Map Of Bones

I am not quite sure how I came across this book, but I saw it somewhere and put it on my B&N wish list. Last week I was ordering books and decided to get it and I was not disappointed.

This is book 2 of the Sigma Series (yes I have now ordered book 1 and 3) and it is a fast paced mystery based on historical facts and information. It is very much a DiVinci Code-esque book so for those of you that are fans I recommend this book. It had great action, great history and mystery and very interesting facts, twists and turns. I really could not put it down. I was taking a red eye home from the west coast last week and I was reading the book instead of sleeping! I could not put it down.

I grew up in Long Island, and no, I don't have the accent. I spent most of my summers in Shelter Island, which is a tiny island between the North and South forks of Eastern Long Island. It is here where I really like to say I grew up. I have the best memories of my childhood in Shelter Island, everything from bonfires and water-skiing to working at The Rams Head Inn and wearing culottes made out of upholstery material that matched the wallpaper (and, yes, those suckers were hot in the August heat!). If you ever want to find a true escape, visit Shelter Island (www.shelter-island.org) and expect nothing except relaxation and my favorite, no traffic lights!!

I was born and raised in Norwalk, CT and went to Merrimack College in MA. I have tried to move out of CT a few times but with no luck so the powers that be are telling me this is my place. I love to read, I love to go out to dinner, I love to watch movies although I never seem to get to the movies nearly as much as I would like. I also like to experiment with different and all kinds of crafts. I am a master of none but a novice at lots! Currently my craft passion is knitting, although if you want me to make you something, it may take a while for me to finish it. I love new adventures and love to try new things which is why My Time For Me came about. I figured everyone wanted to try most things at least once right?
