Best Sports Bars

So what if Ms. Moffly doesn’t know the difference between a touchdown and a tackle. Some people go to sports bars to watch the game and some (ahem) to watch the men. On Saturday night in the spirit of trying new things in the New Year, my girl friends and I decided to put down the Sauvignon Blanc and to pick up a Bud Light. Is there anything cuter than men rooting for their favorite teams? You never know who you’ll cozy up to at the bar. . . Mr. (sports fan) Right?

Darien
Ernie’s, 25 Tokeneke Rd. (203) 655-1941 – This no frills joint will remind you of your favorite college bar.
Fairfield
Skybox Cafe, 1494 Post Rd (203) 259-7535 —Pool tables, darts, and a jukebox, too!
Archie Moore’s, 8 Sanford Street (203) 256-9295 archiemoores.com (for all their locations) – Get the wings while you’re there.
Gaelic American Club, 74 Beach Road gaconline.org — The new bar is phenomenal. You can watch the game while listening to live Irish music. (Not a member? Befriend someone Irish immediately!)
Greenwich
Mackenzie’s Grill Room, 148 Sound Beach Ave. Old Greenwich (203) 698-0223 mackenziesgrillroom.com —Jukeboxes, live music, and sports on the TV’s. It’s just plain fun.
Bruce Park Grill Pub, 231 Bruce Park Ave (203) 869-8006 —With an actual shuffle board, the true locals love this “dive”.
New Canaan

Norwalk
Rowley’s Tavern, 280 Connecticut Ave. (203) 642-4599 rowleystavern.com —Ten flat screen TV’s, a sports channel for international games, and pool tables, this spot is for serious sports fans.
The Black Bear Saloon, 80 Washington Street in SoNo (203) 299-0711 blackbearsono.com —A rowdy, roomy bar with a TV screen bigger than an SUV.
Southport
The Horseshoe Restaurant (a.k.a. The Shoe), 355 Pequot Ave. (203) 255-8624 —This local favorite has pool tables, and good burgers. It’s a hole-in-the-wall with charm.
Southport Brewing Company (a.k.a. SBC), 2600 Post Rd. (203) 256-BEER southportbrewing.com (for all their locations) —Whether you’re checking out the brewing vats, TV’s in the bar, the open kitchen, or the clientele, it’s a great place to go.
Stamford
Bobby Valentine’s Sports Gallery Café (a.k.a. Bobby V’s), 225 Main St. (203) 348-0010 bobbyv.com —The great sports paraphernalia on the walls let’s you know you’re in the right place. Ms. Moffly especially enjoyed her chat with the charming, Mr. Valentine!
